Governor Yusuf Inagurates 44 Interim Management Committees Despite Court Order

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State on Friday swore in 44 Interim Management Committees (IMC) to manage the council’s affairs.

The inauguration of the council ‘caretaker’ came less than 24 hours after the consideration of the state assembly of the list of nominees submitted to the executive.

However, Governor Yusuf presided over the inauguration despite the existing exparte order of the Federal high court, restraining the government from swearing in the 44 Interim managers.

A Federal high court on Thursday ordered the restrain of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, and six others from inaugurating the 44 Interim Management Committees.

Justice A Liman also granted the leave restraining the Accountant General of the Federal to withholding the local government council fund from the monthly FAAC due to Kano state government.

In an exparte motion moved by one Haruna Abba Babangida, sought an interim injunction to restrict Governor Yusuf, Attorney General, and Commissioner for Justice, Kano State Assembly and Kano Independent Electoral Commission, from swearing the Interim managers, pending the determination and hearing of the motion.

Granting the applicant’s prayers, Justice Liman ordered all parties to maintain the status quo on the inauguration of the “caretakers” and restriction of AGF from sharing local government funds from monthly FAAC with the state government.

The court fixed 14th March, for hearing of interlocutory injunction on the matter. Justice Liman equally fixed same day for all parties to address the court on the question of jurisdiction.

Addressing the council’s Interim managers shortly after swearing, Governor Yusuf urged them to ensure effective management of the council’s administration and desist from any act capable of tarnishing their image.

The Governor reminded that his government would remain vigilant on the dispositions of the interim managers and would not hesitate to sack any of them found wanting in the discharge of duty.

On the legality of his action, Governor Yusuf insisted the constitution of the interim managers was in line with constitutional provisions that allow their three-month stay. He said government will decide the next line of action after the expiration of three months.
