Kano Dismisses Casual Workers, Summons CMD over Absenteeism

Kano State Management Board has dismissed casual workers at Waziri Shehu Gidado General Hospital for absenteeism.

Similarly, the hospital board summoned the Chief Medical Director, Chief Nursing Matron as well as queried medical personnel on core but found absent at duty in the hospital.

The Executive Secretary Kano State Hospitals Management Board, Dr Mansur Mudi Nagoda issued the directive when he paid an unscheduled visit to the hospital.

He also worried that despite government policy on free maternity service, the hospital management has continued to subject patients to difficulties by directing them to purchase medication outside the hospital.

Although, Dr. Nagoda was not specific on the number of affected persons, he expressed discontentment over filthy condition the General Hospital was left.

He lamented that despite about 400 staff on the payroll only 6 staff were found around, insisted government would no longer accept any act of indolence.

He added that no single attendant was on duty at the emergency overstretched while faulted the lack of utilization of register for free A&E and maternity items.

According to him, “truancy will no longer be accepted, as carrot and stick principle will be applied. The issue of lobby would not work as all enjoy shifting and call allowances.

“It was also evident that mothers where buying medication outside the facility despite our free policy and all the warnings given to the service providers.

” The immediate action put in place included sacking the absent casuals on duty, serving Query Letters to all staff on the duty roasters in all units and also Summoning the CMD and the matron in charge of the maternity unit to the board for further discussion.

“Let this be the last warning to erring staff and deterrent to all. We will not relent in seeing that everyone does the right thing at the right time.” Dr. Nagode warned.

In a statement by Samira Suleiman, public relations officer of the board, the Executive Secretary also commended the Chief Medical Director, Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital Dr. Usman Tijjani for a job well done in uplifting the facility to a maximum standard.

He essentially applauded the clinical improvement of staff on duty adding that the facility’s Pharmacy was fully stocked and kept tidy. The secretary however urged them to improve in laboratory services.

He advised that there is a need to increase the number of DRS at the emergency unit of the facility and upgrade with a B score and called on the CMD not to relent in his efforts to make the facility great again.
