The Arewa Youth Assembly, a coalition of northern youths and organizations, has demanded that the Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, reinstate his former Special Adviser on Youth and Sports, Amb. Yusuf Imam, also known as “Ogan Boye”, or give him another position in his government.
The group’s Speaker, Abdul Danbature, made the demand in a statement released in Abuja on Saturday.
He said Ogan Boye was sacked unjustly for expressing his loyalty to the governor and the Kwankwasiyya movement, a political group led by former Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso.
He urged the governor to review his decision and restore Ogan Boye’s dignity and honor, or offer him a suitable alternative position in his administration.
He also warned that the group would mobilize its members and supporters to protest against the governor’s action if he ignored their demand.
He said the group was committed to promoting peace, unity and good governance in the state and the country, and that it would not tolerate any form of injustice or oppression against its members or any citizen.
He recalled that Ogan Boye was sacked for his comments in support of the governor against the Federal government and the tribunal judges who nullified his election.
He congratulated the governor on his victory at the Supreme Court, which overturned the tribunal’s verdict and confirmed him as the duly elected governor of Kano State.
He said the Supreme Court had upheld the mandate of the people and the rule of law in the state.
He appealed to the governor to respect the rule of law and the rights of the people to freedom of expression and association.
