The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has today paid a visit to the new Rector of Kano State Polytechnic, Dr. Abubakar Umar Farouk on his appointment as the Acting Rector, Kano State Polytechnic, by His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf.
ICAN Chairman Kano District Society, Habibu Ayuba, said that the appointment of Dr. Abubakar Umar Farouk is a blessing to the Kano State Polytechnic considering his wealth of experience in academia.
Ayuba added that Dr. Abubakar Umar played a significant role in enrolling many of his students into the ICAN society and his contribution will never be forgotten.

“Many are also ready to join, and many students with a Higher National Diploma (HND) from Kano State Polytechnic are performing extremely well, and this is a result of your effort to build your students.
This visit is aimed at solidifying existing relationships with the ICAN District Society, making collaborations in areas of boosting the academic standard, and increasing students’ enrolment in the professional association.
We want to urge you to help as you are doing in producing more members among your staff so that they will impact the professional standard in the Polytechnic environment”, ICAN Chairman Kano District Society.
In his remark, the acting Rector of Kano State Polytechnic, Dr. Abubakar Umar Farouk promised to deliver on his mandate of restructuring the entire institution.
Dr. Umar Farouk said the institution, as it was known for graduating capable hands, will build on the good history to arrive at the promised land.
“One of my initiatives is to establish the Distant Learning Unit to train our Lecturers, who in turn will facilitate the lecturing of our students, especially the working class, and business people among others.
Also, I have taken a step to improve the enrollment figure of young people, especially those with deficiencies to remedy their problem. This is by establishing a new unit of Basic and Remedial Studies to push our people to have their National Diploma (ND), Higher National Diploma (HND) certificates.
We know the Pre-ND programme has been scrapped by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), but as a result, we’re still in discussion with the relevant authorities to see how we can run the programme”, Rector Kano Polytechnic.
Dr. Abubakar Umar Farouk was appointed in this capacity looking at his contributions to the institution on 4th December 2023, by His Excellency Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf.
