PDP Denies Engaging in Coalition Talks with NNPP, SDP, Others

SAJIDA DANGADO

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has denied involvement in ongoing talks of forming a coalition or merger with other opposition parties.

This comes amidst reports of a newly formed coalition called the Coalition of Concerned Political Parties (CCPP). The CCPP, reportedly formed after a meeting of several party leaders, includes the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), the Social Democratic Party (SDP), the Young Progressives Party (YPP), and the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).

Speaking on Thursday with Vanguard, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, said, “The PDP is the most organized and democratic party in Nigeria’s history,” Ologunagba asserted. “Most other parties have their roots in the PDP. We have neither entered into any negotiations nor held talks for any so-called coalition or merger with any other political party.”

He further clarified the decision-making process within the party, stating that any such discussions would require approval beyond the National Working Committee (NWC).

“Such a decision would require the express consent of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of our great party,” Ologunagba explained.

The PDP spokesperson highlighted the party’s established presence across the country, he added, “Every community in Nigeria has a functional PDP office. We are a party that upholds due process and follows our laid-down guidelines, procedures, and processes.”

Ologunagba added, “Most Nigerians know we won the 2019 and 2023 elections, and everyone knows what happened.”

“We are in the process of rebuilding and strengthening our party to defend our hard-won democracy.
