Statistical System Backbone of evidence-based decision making, Says Kano Statistician General

The Statistician General, Bureau of Statistics, Dr. Aliyu Isa Aliyu says that Kano State statistical system serves as the backbone of evidence based decision making.

Dr. Aliyu Isa Aliyu stated this during a one day workshop on the Importance of Data Development and Management for Directors Planning, Research and Statistics of Kano State LGAs, which took place today at Ten to Ten Restaurant, Zoo Road, Kano.

Declaring the workshop open, the Director General emphasizes the important role Data Collection and Dissemination plays towards lessening the workload on constitutional authority particularly at this time of Democratic Governance.

He maintained that Kano State, under the visionary leadership of His Excellency, has embarked on a path of statistical reform to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of data infrastructure. As part of this, no private organization seeking detailed information on relevant issues in the community should acquire it through the local councils, but rather from the Bureau.

He pointed out that within a short span of his leadership in the Bureau, a lot has been attained in the respect particularly in training and retraining of staffers, saying a machinery has been put in place in computing foodstuff prices and inflation rate in Kano.

Earlier, the Director Administration and General Service of the Bureau Hajiya Zahra Suleiman, explained that the gathering was staged in order to inculcate additional knowledge on the attendants and charged them to translate what they learned into action in their various working places.

As part of the Worksop, The State Coordinator, National Bureau of Statistics, Dr. Murtala Muhammad presented a paper on Data Development and Management. Also, A staff from Kaduna State Bureau of Statistics presented on Strengthening Collaboration Between Local Governments and State Bureaus of Statistics.

The Directors of the Bureau: Director ICT, Director Real Sector, Director Demographics and the Director Field Services updated the attendants on the various achievements and developments in their respective departments.

Ayuba Dokadawa, in his closing remark, extolled the management for organising the workshop and stressed the importance of data development and management.
