Alhaji Abdulrasheed Adebisi Olopoeyan, the leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has voiced concern over what he perceives as the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the presidency’s eagerness to manipulate the courts to overturn the will of the people in Kano State.
Expressing disbelief at the discrepancy between the election petition tribunal’s grounds for sacking Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and the Appeal Court’s decision, Olopoeyan emphasized the need for those involved to understand the serious implications of misleading the courts and subverting the popular votes of Kano State.

According to him, “The stakeholders involved in the shenanigan must realise the serious implications of misleading the courts to subvert the popular votes of the Kano State electorate.”
Olopoeyan noted that the desperation demonstrated by the APC is simply to have Kano State under the party’s total control ahead of the 2027 general elections, which is ridiculous.
He said, “Either they plunged Kano State into a kiosk because Governor Yusuf will always win as long as he contests.”
He said the APC as a party can’t withstand the political clout of Governor Yusuf Abba in Kano, thereby advising APC leaders and national chairman Umar Ganduje to accept their weakness and embrace the ordained man from the NNPP.
“At the moment, the APC can’t match the political might and people’s love for Governor Yusuf in Kano; he won them at the 2019 governorship race when he contested under the PDP, but they manipulated the election process.
“Now, in 2023, Yusuf moved to a new party; he still won again with a landslide victory, but they still wanted to steal his mandate again.

“It is high time Ganduje and his APC leaders stopped chasing shadows in Kano politics; the more they try to bring Yusuf down, the more he disgraces them, and I am saying this: 2027 will be worse for APC in Kano State if they don’t embrace Yisuf’s political supremacy now.”
He also frowned at the way elections are now being won through the court.
He said the judgement of the Abuja Appeal Court on the Kano State election on Friday, which sacked Governor Yusuf of the NNPP, is ambiguous and unacceptable.
“I hope the Supreme Court will do the necessary justice,” he said.
Olopoeyan also dismissed as mere rumour that Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, who is the presidential candidate in 2023, has sold NNPP out to APC and President Tinubu, just as he maintained there was no religious or traditional institutional undertone in the ongoing trial.
