The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State has voiced its confidence in securing victory in the upcoming rerun elections in three local government areas.
This follows the Court of Appeal in Abuja’s decision on Thursday, which declared the March 18 governorship election inconclusive, sacked Governor Dauda Lawal of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and ordered a rerun in Maradun, Birnin-Magaji, and Bukkuyum LGAs
The APC Publicity Secretary in the state, Yusuf Idris, said he was confident of victory should the rerun be conducted.
“I can tell you, hold me responsible, if we are going for election today, we are going to defeat them tomorrow, we are happy to go back for rerun in the three local government areas, the people of Nigeria and the citizens will witness what transpired earlier,” Idris told Channels TV on Friday.
However, Mukhtar Lugga, the Chief of Staff of the governor said he remained confident in the PDP’s popularity and victory in the rerun.
He said, “This ruling came as a shock, we were surprised at the turn of the event but as a believers we are also thankful to Allah for the favours He has done on us.
“We have been through difficult time, we are the party that is very resilient, so we feel this is not a problem, like I said we have confidence in judiciary, this is not a new thing.

“We don’t have any issue with that, we know what our choices are, we have been through an election, we have won an election.
“So whatever the options are, depending on the decision of the party, which may be to go to Supreme Court or to go to another election, we are ready for it, our party is still popular, our candidate is still popular, it is about the people of Zamfara, they deserve good governance and that is what we are giving them.
“I don’t even see what they (APC) are challenging, we still have a lot of gaps that they have not been able to seal, so I don’t know where they are getting their confidence.
“So basically whatever the case may be, this election is about Zamfara people, they will still decide, you (APC) don’t have the chance to win an election in Zamfara, you know that and I know that, so stop deceiving people.”
