The Hussaini Adamu Federal Polytechnic, Kazaure, on Monday, announced plans to train youths in Special Technical and Vocational skills.

The Rector, Dr Sabo wada, said this on the sidelines of the inauguration of a new Mathematics and Statistics Complex at the Polytechnic in Kazaure, Jigawa.

According to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the complex housing three lecture halls with 80 students capacity each, two computer laboratories and staff offices was built by the Federal Ministry of Works under its intervention fund.

According to Wada, the institute plans to introduce new courses including Special Vocational and Technical training aimed at enciouraging economic growth and opportunities by bridging skills gap across sectors.

He said the economic and other sectors were in dire need of talented artisans, lamenting that not many of them were opportune to have the necessary training from technical institutions.

The Rector said the programme would provide training to unemployed youths without them having the prerequisite academic qualifications.

Wada said the programme was targeted at school drop-out and those who did not attend formal education to enable them to become self-reliant.

He said the new Mathematics and Statistics Complex was named after Sen. Babangida Hussaini (APC – Jigawa North-West), who facilitated the project.

On his part, Hussaini donated N2 million to the institution towards ensuring effective upkeep of the complex.

Hussaini, a former Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Works, said the project was executed under its special intervention fund.

He noted that many economies collapsed due to effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, adding that Nigeria could restore its economic glory by bridging the unemployment gaps.

The senator said that educational institutions such as polytechnics play critical role in training young Nigerians in technical and vocational skills to fast track sustainable economic development in the country.

“I am ready to support schools and colleges but what I need is result not certificate”.

While pledging support to educational institutions in his constituency, Hussaini urged individuals and organisations to support technical and vocational training programmes to promote job creation and encourage economic development.
