Kano Pillars Football Club’s management has submitted an appeal to the National Premier Football League (NPFL) Disciplinary Committee, seeking a review of the One Million Naira fine imposed on them.

The fine was a consequence of a crowd invasion during their week four Premier League match against Rivers United at Sani Abacha Stadium in Kofar Mata, Kano.

In a letter endorsed by the club’s Chairman, Alh Babangida Umar Little, and Secretary-General Comrade Sani Ibrahim Coach, they have urged the committee to reevaluate the matter with a perspective of balancing justice with clemency.

They emphasized that the incident was not deliberate but rather a coincidence, highlighting that all humans are prone to making errors.

Conveying these in a letter issued by the club’s Public Relations Officer, Sharif Zaharaddeen Usman, the club said the incident was not deliberate but a moment of “over joy going by how the goal was netted in a time when nobody expected it hence the wild jubilation.”

Kano Pillars FC also pointed out similar situations in the sport, referring to instances where fans entered the pitch to celebrate with the players, such as when Remo Stars defeated Sporting of Lagos.

They noted that this phenomenon is not uncommon in countries with strong football traditions.

“Thus, as one of the teams with large following, we will continue to do the utmost in controlling not only our fans but spectators on the need to always adhere strictly to spelt our guidelines of the game as enshrined by the football governing body aimed at show casing the good name of the country across the outside world. “As we await what may be the outcome of our plea for leniency, it is our fervent hope that the committee being a group of men of timbre and candour will do the needful towards rescinding their earlier decision which without mincing words will be in the best interest of fairness, equality, justice and above all football development across the land.”
