Ganduje’s Administration Hires 13,916 Workers Instead of 10,800 – Kano Gov’t

The Kano State screening and verification committee responsible for reviewing the employment of workers during the previous administration has disclosed that a total of 13,916 workers were recruited, a notable increase from the previously reported figure of 10,800.

The Director of Public Enlightenment at the Civil Service Commission of Kano State, Alhaji Musa Garba, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, stating that the final submission of the screening exercise was presented to the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr Abdullahi Bichi.

According to him, “The Committee, which was inaugurated on August 16, 2023, was mandated to review the recruitment of 10,800 workers employed by Ganduje’s administration. The incumbent government discovered that such an exercise was characterised by flagrant abuse of civil service rules and nepotism.”

However, while presenting the report to the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, the chairman of the committee, Dr Umar Shehu Minjibir (Garkuwan Minjibir), revealed that during the screening exercise, 13,916 workers were found to have been recruited, surpassing the initially reported figure of 10,800.

He further explained that out of this figure (13,916), 12,566 were screened, while the remaining balance of 1,350 did not appear or present themselves for the exercise.

Dr Shehu Minjibir clarified that the committee exhaustively addressed the issue and made far-reaching recommendations in line with its terms of reference. He expressed the hope that the state government would find the recommendations useful.

The Secretary to the State Government, Dr Baffa Bichi, thanked the members of the Committee for their thorough work and assured them that the state government would carefully consider their submission and make the necessary decisions.

He emphasised that the administration of Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf prioritises the civil service as the engine room for governance.
