The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) said it received 1,547 complaints of alleged human rights abuses from January to October 2023 in Kano State.
The NHRC State Coordinator, Alhaji Shehu Abdullahi, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Kano.
He said out of the 1,547 cases, 1,320 have been treated while 227 were still pending.
According to him, most of the cases were related to issues on women and gender rights,rights of children,civil and political rights, discrimination,economic and sociocultural rights.

“Out of the 1,547 cases received,720 were on abandonment of family responsibilities, 250 for domestic violence, while 27 cases were for custody and access to children and 10 cases were on forceful marriage.
“And 310 cases were on rights of children, 131 cases for survival and development, 10 sexual abuse cases, while the remaining 89 cases were on civil, unlawful arrest,threat to life and discrimination” Abdullahi said.
