Governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has refuted claims of an assassination attempt on his life.
He said this in response to concerns raised by Kingsley Fanwo, the Information Commissioner, who had reported an attack on the governor’s convoy en route to Abuja on Sunday evening.
However, speaking to reporters in Abuja, Governor Bello clarified that the incident was a minor confrontation within his convoy.

He explained that the situation arose due to a minor altercation between personnel from the Nigerian Police Force, assigned to his convoy, and a military unit responsible for security along the highways: “it was in the course of both units performing their lawful security duties that the incident happened.”
The Governor commended the security agencies for their joint contributions to the improved security of lives and property, which he claimed has benefited the citizens of Kogi State immensely,
However, he called on the high command of the agencies involved to investigate overzealousness or unprofessional conduct by any of their men involved in the incident and apply the necessary sanctions”.

Governor Bello also urged the citizens of Kogi State to remain undisturbed by any attempts from political opportunists to exploit the incident for their gain, especially as the state’s 2023 governorship elections, scheduled for November 11, draw closer.
He assured the state of both his safety and the adequacy of security arrangements to ensure that the elections are peaceful, free and fair.
