The Kano State Government says it will collaborate with relevant organisations towards sanitising the environment sector in the state.
This is contained in a statement issued by the Director of Environment and Climate Change, Mr Ismail Gwammaja, on Tuesday in Kano.
The statement disclosed that the state Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Mr Nasiru Sule-Garo, made this known when he received the National Environmental Standards and Regulation Enforcement Agency (NESREA) on a courtesy visit on Tuesday in Kano.

He expressed delight for the visit, describing the agency as a strong stakeholder and partner in progress to the environmental issues.
Sule-Garo who noted the support and contribution of NESREA, both at Federal and State Government levels, asked for cross fertilisation of ideas between the ministry and the agency, being an institutional mechanism for environmental protection and sustainable development in Nigeria.
He said they should not hesitate to come to the ministry for seamless collaboration and engagement for all environmental laws, guidelines and environmental education amongst the general public.

The Coordinator of NESREA Kano State field office, Malam Lawal Lukman, explained that the visit was to rejoice with the commissioner over his appointment, and register their support and commitment to the ministry.
“This will be in line with the mandate of the agency to enforce all environmental laws, guidelines, standards and regulations in Nigeria, among other functions,” he said.
The coordinator however presented some of the key issues militating against the smooth operation of the agency and solicited for government intervention to address them. (NAN)
