The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof Mahmood Yakubu, has dismissed reports suggesting that the results of the November 11 off-cycle elections will be transmitted manually.
He made this statement in response to reports quoting the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Bayelsa State.
Prof Mahmood Yakubu affirmed that the results of the elections will be transmitted in compliance with the provisions of the law. He outlined that accreditation for the election would be carried out using the BVAS (Biometric Voter Accreditation System) machine both before and after voting.
The BVAS system will also be used to capture and upload the results onto the INEC Election Result Viewing portal.
He emphasized, “Please disregard whatever anyone has said about the transmission of results.”
Additionally, Yakubu announced that all non-sensitive materials required for the off-cycle elections in Kogi, Imo, and Bayelsa States had been successfully delivered to their respective local government areas.

Prof. Mahmood Yakubu conveyed this information while monitoring the Mock accreditation exercise in Lokoja, Kogi State.
In light of recurring flooding in the state, the commission has made provisions to relocate polling units to more secure areas in the event of flooding during the elections.
Furthermore, the Chairman disclosed that the Commission plans to redistribute voters at the polling unit after the election due to the significant number of registered voters in certain areas.
He explained, “This is the polling unit with the largest number of registered voters in Nigeria, with about 13,000 voters. So, we will be deploying eight BVAS machines to the polling units on election day.”
National Commissioner in charge of Kogi, Prof. Sani Adam, affirmed that the state was prepared for the governorship election, stressing that the transmission of results for Kogi, Imo, and Bayelsa Governorship polls would be conducted in accordance with the law.
