Kano Court Sentences Niger National to Death

A Kano High Court has sentenced a 27-year-old Nigerien national, Sulaiman Abdullahi, to death by hanging for the 2017 killing of 30-year-old Yahya Badamasi.

Presided over by Justice Nasiru Saminu, the court found Sulaiman Abdullahi guilty of culpable homicide, a violation of Section 221 (b) of the Penal Code Laws of Kano State 1991, and consequently, he received a death sentence by hanging.

The convict, hailing from Matamaye village in Niger Republic, had a dispute with the deceased, who was a resident of Kofar Nassarawa Quarters in Kano.

The altercation, which revolved around N700, took place on April 9, 2017, resulting in a physical altercation that ended when the convict produced a pair of scissors and stabbed the deceased in the neck.

Injured in the altercation, Yahaya Badamasi was rushed to Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital but regrettably passed away during medical treatment.

Subsequently, police officers from the Kwalli Division arrested and charged Abdullahi, leading to the court’s verdict.
