An 18-year-old housewife, Khadija Adamu, has been detained by the Bauchi State Police Command on allegations of beating her 5-year-old stepdaughter to death in the Kandahar region of the state.
The state Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Muhammad, disclosed this during a news conference at the Bauchi police headquarters on Tuesday, October 10, 2023.
According to CP Muhammed, Khadija was apprehended after one Abdulaziz Adamu reported to the police that the suspect had beaten Hafsat Garba, resulting in severe injuries, ultimately leading to her death as confirmed by a doctor at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH).

The Commissioner stated, “On 28/9/2023 at about 21:25hrs, one Abdulaziz Adamu (male) aged 38yrs of Kandahar area Bauchi, reported at A’ Divisional Police Headquarters that on the same date at about 1600hrs, one Khadija Adamu (felame) aged 18yrs of the same address beat up her stepdaughter named “Hafsat Garba” (female) aged 5yrs old, as a result, she sustained severe injuries on her body.”
“Upon receiving the report, a team of detectives led by DPO swung into action, rushed to the scene, and transferred the victim to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) Bauchi for medical treatment, where she was pronounced dead by the medical doctor.”

“The preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect beat up the victim due to an alleged pass-stood that ruined her clothes, and she sustained various degrees of injuries on her body.”
“Without much argument, the suspect confessed to the alleged offence against her during interrogation.”
“Investigation is ongoing, after which the suspect will be charged to court for the established offence accordingly.”
