A U.S. District Court in the Northern District of Illinois has on Tuesday, ordered Chicago State University (CSU) to disclose the academic records of President Bola Tinubu.
The order comes in response to a request made by Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 election.
Judge Gilbert, a U.S. magistrate judge, presiding over the case, directed Chicago State University to provide “all relevant and non-privileged documents” to Atiku Abubakar within a two-day timeframe. He however ruled that only “non-privileged documents” should be disclosed.

Recall that Atiku had approached the US court for an order compelling the CSU to release the academic records of Tinubu.
The documents sought by Atiku’s legal team, represented by Angela M. Liu, include records of President Tinubu’s admission and acceptance at the university, dates of attendance, degrees conferred, awards, and honors received during his tenure at the institution.
In response to the court order, Chicago State University expressed its lack of understanding regarding the relevance of President Tinubu’s academic records to a foreign election challenge in 2023.
Nevertheless, the university affirmed that once a U.S. court grants such an order, President Tinubu’s academic records will be made public.
