President Bola Tinubu has nominated Dr. Olayemi Michael Cardoso to serve as the new Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
The appointment, according to a statement released by Presidential spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, on Friday, is subject to confirmation of the Senate.

Olayemi Micheal Cardoso is a Nigerian banker, chartered stockbroker and public policy maker. He is a financial and development expert with over thirty years’ experience in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors.
In 1999, President Tinubu, as Lagos State Governor appointed Cardoso as the Commissioner for Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget.
He served as the former chairman of Citibank Nigeria.
Cardoso studied managerial and administrative studies at the Aston University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree.
He has a Master’s degree from the Harvard Kennedy School in public administration.
Cardoso was chairman of the board of Citibank Nigeria.
He became a member of the Cities Alliance’s Africa Think Tank Group, a group created to solve urban development challenges.
He has served as a board member of MRS Oil and was the chairman of the board of EFinA.
Cardoso is a member of the advisory board of Lagos Business School.
He is Chairman of the board of African Venture Philanthropy Alliance.
He is the founding chairman and co-chair of Ehingbeti Summit, the Lagos state economic summit.
He is also a former executive lead at Harvard Kennedy School alumni association.
He wrote and monitored the implementation of the blueprint which catalysed economic development in the world’s sixth largest megacity.
In 2017, he was awarded an honorary doctorate degree in business administration by his alma mater, Aston University, in recognition of “his outstanding contributions to business and society”.
