India formally transferred the G20 presidency to Brazil during the closing ceremony of the annual G20 summit held in New Delhi over the weekend.
The transition of leadership was symbolized as India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi handed over the ceremonial gavel of the G20 presidency to Brazil’s President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
India assumed the G20 presidency on December 1, taking over from Indonesia. It has held this prestigious position and will continue to do so until November 30.

During the two-day summit, the G20 member nations reached a consensus and adopted a declaration committing to various critical issues. These include pledges related to food and energy security, climate change, and addressing global debt vulnerabilities.
On Sunday, Prime Minister Modi also proposed convening a “virtual summit” of the G20 at the end of November. The purpose of this virtual gathering would be to assess the progress on the suggestions and proposals put forward by member nations during the summit and explore ways to accelerate their implementation.

“In that session, we can review the topics decided during this summit,” Modi stated, assuring that further details would be communicated to all G20 members.
