The Kano Election Petition Tribunal has invalidated the election of the House of Representatives member representing Kura/Madobi/Garun Malam, Umar Yusuf Datti.
The tribunal based its decision on the failure of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) representative to resign from Bayero University, Kano, within the mandated 30 days before the election.

As a result, Justice Ngozi Azinge has directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to set aside the certificate of return previously issued to the NNPP candidate and declare Musa Ilyasu Kwankwaso of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the rightful winner of the election.
Kwankwaso scored the second highest votes during the election of Kura/ Madobi/Garun Malam Federal House of Representatives, held on 25th February 2023.
