House of Reps: NNPP candidate Jobe defeats Ganduje’s son at Tribunal

The Kano National/State House of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal, on Tuesday, dismissed the petition filed by Umar Abdullahi Ganduje of the APC challenging the election of Tijjani Abdulkadir Jobe of NNPP representating Rimin Gado/Dawakin Tofa/ Tofa/ Federal House of Representatives

Umar, who is the son of APC chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, in April, filed a petition challenging the victory of Jobe, for Rimin-Gado, Dawakin Tofa and Tofa Federal Constituency election conducted on 25th March, 2023.

The respondents are: INEC and Tijjani Abdulkadir Jobe.

Delivering the judgment, the three-member panel, held that the petitioner failed to prove it case in compliance with the 2022 Electoral Act, thereby dismissing the petition for lacking in merit.

The Tribunal stated that the petitioner failed to provide sufficient evidence to substantiate their claims of election irregularities.

The Judge also ordered the petitioner to pay the respondents sum of N200,000, jointly and severally.

Earlier, Counsel to the Petitioner, Adekunle Falola, urged the court to declare Umar Ganduje as the winner and set aside INEC declaration that announced Jobe as the winner of 25th March, 2023 election.

The petitioner also prayed the Tribunal to grant leave by allowing the court processes be served on Jobe and pasting the same on Kano NNPP Secretariat located at Sharada while the Tribunal consequently granted the order.
