In the wake of a rift between Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki and his Deputy, Philip Shaibu, the state government has relocated the deputy governor’s office to a new location outside the government house.
GOOD EVENING NIGERIA learnt that the new office can now be found at No 7, Dennis Osadebey Avenue, in close proximity to the government house.
Notably, this new location was previously the State Public Procurement Office, a facility commissioned by former Governor Sen. Adams Oshiomhole on December 16, 2014.
According to a Daily Trust correspondent, who visited the place, there is a sign board with the inscription, “Office of The Deputy Governor” erected at the entrance at the building.
When contacted, Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, said, “If there is a government sign board saying so, then it must be so.
This relocation comes amid a simmering power struggle for succession within the state, pitting the deputy governor, Shaibu, against Governor Obaseki.

While Shaibu seeks to succeed Obaseki, who hails from Edo South senatorial district, the governor is advocating for a successor from Esanland in Edo Central senatorial district.
The tensions recently played out during an event organized by the government, where Shaibu staged a walkout after after his aides were forced out of the hall.
Additionally, a Department of State Services (DSS) operative reportedly denied Shaibu access to Governor Godwin Obaseki during a church service to commemorate the 32nd anniversary of Edo State’s creation.
