The leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, was notably missing as the party convened a crucial National Executive Committee (NEC) gathering in Abuja on Tuesday.
The aim of the meeting was to finalize the expulsion of Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, and Dr. Agbo Major, National Publicity Secretary, along with 14 others.
The NNPP has been dealing with internal discord recently, with its National Working Committee (NWC) dissolving seven state executive committees and dismissing Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, and Dr. Agbo Major, National Publicity Secretary.
The meeting, which took place at Bolingo Hotel, Abuja, saw the presence of Governor of Kano State, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, and the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Alhaji Jibrin Falgore.

Simultaneously, a separate meeting involving the expelled members was held in Lagos.
The NEC asserted that the expulsions occurred due to the formation of parallel boards, NWCs, and SECs.
Alhaji Abba Kawu Ali, the national chairman of the party, clarified that the NEC’s purpose was to restructure the party.
He revealed that a seven-member disciplinary committee had been established by the NWC, and the outcome led to the suspension of state executive committees.
Ali urged party members elected to various positions to serve as positive representatives and to take inspiration from Kwankwaso’s approach.
He also said the meeting intended to change the logo of the party, saying there was need to deliberate on the issue so that collectively an acceptable logo can be unveiled.
