Kogi Gubernatorial: Hoodlums Set Car Ablaze at Home of SDP Chieftain

Yet-to-be-indentified Hoodlums on Sunday, invaded the residence of a Social Democratic Party (SDP) chieftain, Mustapha Emewe, in Emewe-Opada village, Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, setting his car ablaze.

The incident, which reportedly happened Sunday midnight, has added a new layer of complexity to the ongoing political crisis in the state, as the November 11 governorship election approaches.

Witnesses from the local community stated that after committing the act, the hoodlums retreated to an isolated location within the area before leaving for an undisclosed destination.

It was reported that the attackers created a tense atmosphere by firing gunshots randomly to deter anyone from confronting them..

A local resident named Joel Adegbe recounted the events, saying, “The sporadic sound of guns was heard around 12 am on Sunday in the town. Some of us thought it was vigilantes who were shooting to announce their presence on duty.

“It was when we saw the flame of fire from the direction of the sound of the gun in the town, accompanied with an explosion, that it dawned on us that something must have been set on fire.”

It was said that neighbours later ran out to put out the inferno which had burnt major components of the car.

Sheik Ibrahim Jibrin, the State Director General of the SDP, reportedly led party members to the scene on Sunday afternoon to express their solidarity and commiseration with Mustapha Emewe.

SP William Aya, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Kogi State Police Command is yet to comment on the incident.
