World Humanitarian Day: Red Cross reaffirms Commitment to Serve Humanity

The Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS), Kano branch, has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to serve humanity in line with its fundamental principles of humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence and voluntary service.

The President of the Nigeria Red Cross(NRC), Prince Adeaga Oluyemisi-Adetayo, who spoke at the organisation’s Humanitarian Day event on Saturday in Kano, said the world humanitarian day is to appreciate service of volunteers and those of related organizations in humanitarian endeavours.

The humanitarian world day with its theme: “No matter what” encapsulates the organisation’s steadfast resolve to serve humanity relentlessly, even in the face of adversity.

Oluyemisi-Adetayo represented by the Secretary General of the NRC, Abubakar Kende, said with over 800,000 volunteers and counting, NRC would continue to work on frontlines, provide critical aid, solace and hope to the most vulnerable regardless of the obstacles.

According to him, “every life saved, every smile restored, and every hand held in times of despair is a testament to the transformative impact of humanitarian aid.

“The aid worker security database between 2016 and 2022, 41 workers have been killed in North-east Nigeria while 22 have been wounded and 28 kidnapped, three month ago, five aid workers were also kidnapped in Apa Benue state”,he said.

He urged all those who believe in potential of humanity to join hands with the NRCS as beacon of hope that light up darkest corners.

World humanitarian day is observed to honour the invaluable contributions of humanitarian workers around the globe who selflessly dedicate their lives to alleviate human suffering.
