A police inspector on escort duty was shot dead by unidentified gunmen at a popular hotel in the DLine area of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Friday night.
An eewitnesses reported that the attackers shot the police officer and fled with his service AK-47 rifle and beret.
Speaking under anonymity, the eyewitness said, “A policeman was shot in front of a popular hotel in DLine, and his service AK-47 was taken. The criminals also made away with his beret. The assailants were in a Grey 2005 Toyota Corolla. Everyone should exercise caution.”
Rivers State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe Koko, confirmed the incident.

She revealed that the police have initiated a manhunt to apprehend the assailants who managed to escape the scene.
“On 25/08/2023, around 2030hrs, information indicated that a police inspector attached to the Department of Operations in Yenegoa, Bayelsa State, was fatally shot in the head while escorting his principal around Landmark Hotel at Oroworukwo Olu Obasanjo Port Harcourt,” Koko stated.
She added that the assailants made off with the inspector’s rifle and beret.
“His rifle and beret was carted away. Patrol teams were immediately mobilized to the scene. Effort is ongoing to arrest the fleeing hoodlums and recover the rifle. The corpse has been deposited at the Military Hospital, Port Harcourt for autopsy.”
