KAROTA Seizes Fake, Expired Pharmaceuticals Worth N30m in Kano

The officials of Kano State Road and Traffic Agency, KAROTA, has seized fake and expired pharmaceutical and pesticides products valued at thirty million naira.

The agency, in a statement released on Friday by its Public Relations Officer, Mr Nabilusi Kofar-Nai’sa, said the operation was carried out following an intelligence received by KAROTA personnel on Kano Line and Zaria road, about a vehicle carrying suspicious products, which they identified last night.

Kofar-Nai’sa explained that the driver of the vehicle presented KAROTA officials with a backdated waybill, raising suspicions. As a result, a thorough inspection of the vehicle was carried out, revealing goods suspected to be fake or expired.

He added that the vehicle contained pesticides as well as fake and expired pharmaceutical products including magnesium suspension, pain relief, amoxicillin, diclofenac injections, ciprofloxacin, antibiotics, paracetamol and dexamethasone, all worthed over thirty million naira.

Kofar-Nai’sa further disclosed that they also intercepted container with empty sacks belonging to Golden Fertiliser Company.

He noted that the sacks would later be filled with substandard fertiliser and also sold to farmers.

He however, revealed that Golden Fertiliser Company had raised concerns about suspicious activities linked to their brand name.

Meanwhile, the Managing Director, KAROTA, Faisal Mahmud Kabir attributed the success to the initiatives and tighten belt policy of the agency.

“While inspecting the confiscated alleged substandard products, Faisal gave glory to Allah for doing what exactly the state governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf asked him to do, which among them is this discovery of fake pharmaceutical goods.”

He urged the public to remain cautious of counterfeit pharmaceuticals, stressing that they could result in health risks, including loss of life or lasting harm.
