A group of residents in Kano has expressed their opposition to the potential use of force by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to address the ongoing coup crisis in Niger.
This stance comes after ECOWAS om Thursday directed member States’ military forces to prepare for possible intervention in the neighboring West African country to restore democratic rule.
The protesters, voicing their dissent during a demonstration, saying they rejected the idea of military intervention.
They chanted : “Nigeriens are our brothers, Nigeriens are also our family. Niger is ours, we don’t want war, war against Niger is injustice, a plot by the western forces,” during a procession in the ancient city of Kano.
