Niger Coup: Protest Erupts Against Tinubu, ECOWAS in Niger[VIDEO]

A group of discontented residents in Niger Republic has organized a protest targeting President Bola Tinubu, who currently serves as the chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

In a video circulating online on Friday, demonstrators could be seen chanting anti-Tinubu slogans and brandishing placards conveying critical messages about the Nigerian leader.

The motivation behind this protest appears to be linked to Tinubu’s efforts to restore democracy in the troubled nation. Notably, ECOWAS, under Tinubu’s leadership, issued a 7-day ultimatum to the Niger junta, demanding the reinstatement of ousted President Mohamed Bazoum.

Gen Abdulsalam Abubakar, a former military Head of State, headed a delegation sent to Niger to engage with the coup leaders. However, the delegation was only able to meet with representatives of the junta.

Subsequently, the junta, led by Gen Abdourahmane Tchiani, announced the severance of ties with Nigeria, Togo, France, and the US.

As tensions rise and the West African regional bloc contemplates sanctions against Niger, numerous European countries are in the process of evacuating their nationals from the troubled region.
