Kano Gov’t Sets to Furnish Public Schools

In a move aimed at rejuvenating the education sector and creating better learning environments for students, the Kano State Government has unveiled a comprehensive plan to supply essential furniture to public schools throughout the state.

The announcement was delivered by Alhaji Umar Haruna Doguwa, the Commissioner of Education, during a crucial meeting held at Gidan Murtala in Kano city. The meeting brought together directors from various agencies under the ministry, signifying the government’s commitment to address the pressing issues in the education sector.

During the meeting, Alh. Umar Doguwa expressed deep concern over the current state of many schools in the region. He highlighted the distressing fact that numerous students are compelled to study on the bare floor due to the lack of sufficient furniture.

“It is heartbreaking that in many of our schools, the children sit on the bare floor to study,” stated Alh. Umar Doguwa, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.

“In some schools, even the staff rooms do not have furniture at all. This obviously impedes teaching and learning. Such is unacceptable to any responsible government,” he stated firmly.

As a crucial step towards addressing this pressing issue, the Commissioner instructed the directors to immediately submit detailed furniture requirements for all public primary and secondary schools.

He assured them that as soon as the ministry receives the figures, contracts will be awarded to facilitate the provision of desks and chairs.

“However, this furniture initiative is just the beginning of a more comprehensive plan to transform the education sector in Kano State.

“From furniture, we will move to the provision of infrastructure, teaching and non-teaching staff, and educational materials, so that at the end of the day, glaring transformation will be witnessed in the education sector of Kano,” asserted Alh. Umar Doguwa, underlining the government’s vision for the state’s educational future.

Recognizing the pivotal role of directors and key stakeholders in achieving better education outcomes, Alh. Umar Doguwa stressed the need for their unwavering determination and cooperation.

He encouraged the directors to exercise their authority and promptly reprimand any staff under their supervision for any wrongdoing.

“Any staff who is not willing to work should give way. There are many out there looking for jobs, so I see no reason why we should excuse any errant education official,” warned the Commissioner, emphasizing the need for efficiency and accountability within the education system.

Furthermore, Alh. Umar Doguwa met with officials of the state branch of the Parents-Teachers Association, led by Alh. Sani Salisu Danhassan, seeking their collaboration and support towards achieving the government’s mission and vision for the education sector in Kano State.
