Zamfara: Bandits Threaten to Marry Abducted Females if Ransom Not Paid

Four female captives, including a student from the Zamfara State College of Arts and Science, have come forward to raise the alarm regarding their dire situation.

Abducted by bandits six months ago while returning from a wedding along the Birnin Magaji-Kaura Namoda Road, the victims revealed that their captors are now threatening to marry them off if a hefty N12 million ransom is not paid.

In a video lasting two minutes and 19 seconds, obtained by Channels Television on Saturday, the abductees bravely shared their distressing ordeal.

Thecaptives, identified as Ummukhair, Aisha Yahaya, Jemila Yahaya, and Ummu Sani, disclosed the grave ultimatum given by their abductors to their families.

They must produce the ransom within one week, or the bandits will proceed with the appalling plan of marrying the young women off against their will.

They plead for their freedom

“We are begging you, parents, in the name of God. We are in trouble here with our abductors. Please, look for money to secure our freedom,” they pleaded.

“The past government of Governor Bello Matawalle failed to secure our release. This is our sixth month and some days in captivity. We are begging the Governor Dauda Lawal-led administration to do something.”

An elder brother to one of the victims, Aminu Yahaya told Channels Television that six of the girls were kidnapped while two of them were released after the payment of a N6 million ransom.

“I was the one that took the other ransom of N6 million to them before they released two girls,” he added. “Now they are giving us a one-week ultimatum to pay N12 million or else they will marry off our sisters.”

He thus appealed to the state government and citizens to come to their aid.
