A suspected outbreak of diphtheria has resulted in the tragic death of three children in Makarfi Local Government Area.
Additionally, seven other children have been hospitalized as authorities respond to contain the situation.
Malam Aliyu Alassan, the Health Secretary of the Makarfi Local Government Council, confirmed these distressing developments in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday.

Diphtheria is a highly contagious bacterial infection that primarily affects the respiratory system, posing a serious health risk, especially to young children who may be more vulnerable to its complications.
In the recent developments, Malam Aliyu said the suspected cases occurred at Tashar Na Kawu, Gubuchi Ward of the local government.
Alassan said most of the affected victims were children, adding that the specimen of the victims had been forwarded to Abuja for analysis.
“Those suspected with the disease have been taken to the hospital and isolated for medical observation.
“While contact tracing is going on to prevent further spread of the disease,” he said.
