Russia President, Vladimir Putin will not attend a summit in South Africa in August, the South African presidential office says.
The Russian leader was invited to Johannesburg for a summit of the BRICS countries, as Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa were known, from 22 to 24 August.
However, he was subject to an international arrest warrant, issued by the International Criminal Court.
South Africa had signed the statutes of the world criminal court and was facing international pressure to execute the arrest warrant.
The court in The Hague issued the arrest warrant for Mr Putin in March, for alleged war crimes in Ukraine.

In his first official response to Russia’s suspension of the ‘Grain from Ukraine’ programme, President Volodymyr Zelensky, Monday, in Kyiv has said his country will find alternative routes to reach Africa and Asia, in a bid to keep food prices down and prevent starvation in destination countries of the export following Russia’s current offensive move

In another news, Wema Bank has announced the removal of its suspension on international transactions conducted through naira cards.
In a letter addressed to its customers, the bank officially declared an end to the temporary halt on such transactions.
With this development, customers holding Wema Bank Mastercards can now use their naira debit cards to make payments for transactions conducted in foreign currencies.
