THE NATION
Christian Harrison is a Professor of Leadership and Enterprise at the University of Bolton. Prior, to joining the University of Bolton, he was a Reader/Associate Professor in Leadership and the Chair of the Staff Forum for Research of the University of the West of Scotland, United Kingdom. In this interview with Yetunde Oladeinde, he takes you into his world graduating with a First-class degree in Pharmacy and moving into the field of Management.
What inspired you to go into the sector?
All my life, I have always wanted to be a source of change. I wanted to change the lives of others and to be the solution to people’s problems and gladly academia has provided me with this opportunity. Prior to being an academic, my focus on changing lives drove me to study pharmacy. I graduated with a first-class degree in Pharmacy from the University of Lagos and practiced as a pharmacist, assuming managerial positions before moving into the field of Management. I chose to change my career course because while practicing as a pharmacist, I felt this void as I wanted to reach a greater number of people; hence I decided to undertake a Master’s degree. My journey into academia was by serendipity. I had completed my MBA from the University of Aberdeen Business School where I graduated with distinction and was the valedictorian and the opportunity to undertake a PhD arose in Scotland. I was always one of those students who liked reading and academia was appealing from my early days in the University.
